    WHAT IS JUDO?

And what do you get from it?

Participate in an internationally recognised Olympic sport.

Develop your fitness levels and extend your endurance (or maybe just burn up that energy)!

Improve your balance and learn to fall safely, no matter the situation.

Great off-season cross training or complimentary training for football, netball, soccer, volleyball, or any other sport; focusing on how bodyweight positioning influences your own play style.

Already practice a martial art? Judo can be the perfect martial art to compliment it, focusing on realistic applications and techniques.

Judo is well-rounded, and has techniques in tachi-waza or standing work, (such as throwing and off-balancing) and ne-waza, or groundwork (such as hold downs, chokes and arm bars).

A strong and effective way to build skills in self defence that don't rely on force or overpowering.

  • 6 principles of judo

    Seiryoku Zenyo (Maximum Efficiency)

Balance, off-balance and positioning. (Maintaining your balance while exploiting others).

    Jita Kyoei (Mutual Benefit)

Co-operation, respect, reciprocity (Respectfully balance your actions and intentions with the actions and intentions of others).

    Ju (Gentleness)

Using your opponent’s strength, yielding and redirecting, minimising force (Using someone’s actions to contribute to the energy required to change where they go).

    Zanshin (Awareness)

Mindfulness, alertness and continual readiness (Being open to understand changes to seize opportunities).

    Mushin (Mind Free)

Ego free, no attachment to winning / losing and flow. (Be in the zone, unburdened by desire and letting go of emotion puts you at your best).

    Seiryoku Zenyo (Use of Energy)

Conservation, timing and rhythm and economy of movement (No unwanted movement, just the right time to use only just the right amount of energy).
